In this page I will help you recognize some potential areas to stay in Jerusalem. Click on this Map to see it larger :
1. Inside the Old City
This is not an obvious choice. There are no big and luxurious hotels inside the walls of the old city, but rather small hostels with a lot of character that are managed by religious Muslims or Christians.
See Hotels inside the Old City. After you click, you can see a Map at the bottom of the page with all the hotels available in this area.
2. City Center
The walking street Ben-Yehuda is considered the City Center, it is located to the left of the Old city, in front of Jaffa gate. All this area is full of shopping and restaurants and cafés, it is also the main nightlife zone.
Also central, is all Yaffo street, the road on which the Tram (light train) is passing from the central bus station (point 5 on the map above) to the Old city. Most Jerusalem’s hotels are along this path (more bellow Jaffa street, because to the north of it are some orthodox Jews neighborhoods).
See Hotels in the City Center (Downtown Jerusalem). After you click, you can see a Map at the bottom of the page with all the hotels available in this area.
There is an Ibis Hotel in this area
And another Ibis hotel, exactly in the walking street. Ibis Styles Jerusalem city Center Hotel.
Harmony Boutique Hotel is good and central
If you are looking for a good Hostel in Jerusalem city center, take note of Abraham Hostel
3. King David street + Mamilla (Yemin Moshe neighborhood)
King David street is a luxurious street in term of hotels. The street starts at Mamilla shopping center and ends at the windmill.
In the middle of the street is the King David Hotel which is very famous. Presidents are usually staying here.
In front of King David Hotel, there is the YMCA Three Arches Hotel. A very nice building
The area is overlooking the walls of old city and the neighborhood Mishkanot Sha-ananim. Behind King David street (to its left), are “Rehavia” and “Nahalaot”neigborhoods which are regular residential zones, close to the city center.

4. The German Colony
An elegant residential neighborhood with trendy cafés. A place where you would like to live and raise children (or dogs).
It is near the Paamon garden and Atahana (entertainment area on the old railway station).
More to the south is Talpiot residential neighborhood.

In this zone there is the hotel Orient by Isrotel Exclusive.
5. Central Bus + Train Station
Nothing interesting here, except the Bus and Train station, in case you need to take a bus (or train) early in the morning.
The place is completely safe, it’s not like some train stations in huge cities in Europe. From here it’s easy to take the Tram or even to walk to the town center.
See Hotels in the Central Bus Station area. After you click, you can see a Map at the bottom of the page with all the hotels available in this area.
6. East Jerusalem + Mount Olive
East Jerusalem is the area immediately to the north of the old city. It is a Muslim area. More to the north is the Hebrew University.
Mount Olive is a famous hill with nice churches overlooking the Old city. It is considered east Jerusalem and is surrounded by Arab villages.

7. Ein Kerem
You should come to Ein Kerem if you prefer the countryside over the city. It is a sort of village in the mountains, a very nice place. It is on the west side of Jerusalem, not close to the city center.
See Hotels in Ein Karem area. After you click, you can see a Map at the bottom of the page with all the hotels available in this area.
8. Tel-Aviv
Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem are just 65 Km apart and it takes only 50 minutes to travel by bus or train.
You may prefer to sleep in Tel-Aviv and come to explore Jerusalem during the day. Tel-Aviv has still an advantage in the nightlife, although Jerusalem had made a lot of progress in the last years.
You can read an overview of the potential zones to stay in Tel-Aviv and also reserve an hotel.

How long to stay in jerusalem ?
A lot of tourists are coming for a 1 day trip to Jerusalem, just to explore the Old city. It is quite possible because the old city itself is just 1 Km wide and it is easily reachable from the Central Bus Station. But :
The Old City has a lot of nice monuments and churches and different quarters and if you are serious, you will need at least 2 days to really explore it.
If you want also to visit the rest of Jerusalem and see famous museums like the Holocaust museum and Israel museum and also get some nice panoramic views over the city, then you need probably 3 days in Jerusalem.
